What is a dynamometer? Basically, a dynamometer is a device used to measure force, torque, or power.
A dynamometer can also be used to determine the torque and power required to operate a driven machine like a pump. In that case, a motoring or driving dynamometer is used such is the case with Excel Engineering's transmission testing dyno. A dynamometer that is designed to be driven is called an absorption or passive dynamometer like Excel Engineering's small and large engine testing dyno.
